Richard Nguyen, a student at Golden Hill School, won a countywide piano competition sponsored by the California Assn. of Professional Music Teachers earlier this month.

Richard, 10, played works by Chopin, Debussy and Mozart. He began studying piano at age 4 and also plays the violin in the Orange County Youth Orchestra. This is the third time in four years Richard has won the competition, said his mother, Luu, with his first victory coming in 1996 at age 7.

Richard will join other regional winners of the piano competition at a concert in Pasadena early next year.
