MISSION VIEJO
Residents will choose the future home of their city government when an advisory vote on the issue is taken in the March election.
The City Council on Monday voted 4 to 0, with Councilman John Paul Ledesma absent, to place a measure on the ballot that would give residents an opportunity to vote for one of three options for a new City Hall.
City staff was directed to report back to the council on Dec. 6 with a ballot item that would enable voters to choose between continuing to lease the City Hall office space at 25909 Pala at an estimated cost of $107.5 million over the next 50 years, buying and renovating an existing building at a cost of about $81 million over the next 50 years or building a 47,750-square-foot facility on land the city already owns across from the Mission Viejo Library at a cost of about $57.7 million over the next 50 years.
