Quake Death Toll Increases to 705
The death toll from the Nov. 12 earthquake in Turkey has risen to at least 705--increasing by almost 100 since Friday--and was expected to rise further as more bodies are recovered from within the piles of shattered concrete. A day after the search for survivors was called off, bulldozers moved in to cart away the wreckage. “A lot of families pulled out their dead themselves and have taken them away to bury them in villages where they were born,” said Ahmet Cekic, an official in Duzce, the epicenter of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake.
