Charles A. Lake; Retired Getty Oil Foreman

Retired roustabout foreman Charles A. Lake died Tuesday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. He was 81.

Lake was born July 28, 1918, in Coalinga. At the age of 3, he moved with his family to Ventura, where he grew up and attended school.

During World War II, he served in the Army and participated in the Normandy invasion.

Lake was a roustabout foreman for Getty Oil Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1980.

He was an avid camper and active with the Boy Scouts while his sons were involved in Scouting. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking in his shop.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Madge of Ventura; sons Charles Lake of Ojai and Donald Lake of Ventura; a sister, Merry Hootman of Ventura; a brother, Bernard Lake of Henderson, Nev.; and four grandchildren.

Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, with the Rev. Edwin Crist of Community Presbyterian Church officiating.

Private burial will be held at San Gabriel Cemetery in San Gabriel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
