The Phoenix Coyotes didn’t need another hat trick from Jeremy Roenick to notch their sixth consecutive victory Sunday.

Shane Doan scored two of Phoenix’s four consecutive goals in the third period as the Coyotes rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the Red Wings, 4-3, at Detroit.

Louie DeBrusk scored his first goal in more than two years and goalie Bob Essensa remained unbeaten for the Coyotes, whose winning streak matches Boston for the longest in the NHL this season.

Roenick, who scored hat tricks in back-to-back wins over New Jersey and Colorado last week, didn’t find the net this time. But his pass set up the goal from DeBrusk, his first since Nov. 26, 1997, that started the Coyotes’ comeback.

“DeBrusk stepped up to the plate and got a big one for us,” Doan said. “It got us going, it boosted our confidence and after that everyone was flying. We’ve had success coming back from deficits, so you have confidence.”

Doan broke a 2-2 tie with 6:10 remaining on a wrist shot from the left point that went over the right shoulder of Detroit goalie Ken Wregget.

“It was a pretty good shot, but it’s one a goaltender should’ve had,” Wregget said. “They worked well down low. Things started to go better for them in the third period.”

Phoenix’s winning streak matches Boston for the longest in the NHL this season.

San Jose 4, New Jersey 3--Patrick Marleau scored with six seconds left in overtime to give the Sharks the victory at home, despite the Devils overpowering them, 43-20, in shots on goal. The victory tied the Sharks with Phoenix and the Kings for most points in the Pacific Division and the league.

Ottawa 3, Philadelphia 3--Shawn McEachern’s power-play goal with 18 seconds left in the third period gave the Senators a tie with the Flyers at Kanata, Canada.

With Luke Richardson off for hooking, McEachern took Marian Hossa’s centering pass during a goal-mouth scramble and beat John Vanbiesbrouck for his seventh of the season.

Buffalo 3, Tampa Bay 2--Michal Grosek scored with 2:34 left in overtime as the Sabres beat the Lightning at Tampa, Fla.

Grosek’s backhander appeared to deflect off Tampa Bay defenseman Ben Clymer, going past Lightning goalie Dan Cloutier.

N.Y. Islanders 2, Boston 1--Goaltender Roberto Luongo made a spectacular debut by stopping 43 shots to lead the Islanders past the red-hot Bruins at Boston.

Luongo, the highest drafted goalie in NHL history, was the Islanders’ first pick and fourth overall in 1997. He made 31 saves in the first two periods, allowing only Anson Carter’s goal 6:02 into the second.

Dallas 4, Atlanta 2--Joe Nieuwendyk scored twice for the Stars and the struggling Stanley Cup champions rallied for three goals in the third period to beat the expansion Thrashers at Atlanta.
