The city presented an overview of the East Orange General Plan Wednesday, which includes 7,000 of 18,000 acres of unincorporated land that is part of Orange’s sphere of influence.
Use of the land has become a concern after the city discovered in August the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is considering building a maximum-security jail in the area.
Mayor Joanne Coontz said the 10-year-old plan to develop 7,000 acres of the land needs to be revised and updated.
“To us it isn’t vacant land, it’s a vision,” Coontz said.
