UCLA (2-2, 0-1) at Arizona State (1-2, 0-1)

Share

* Kickoff: 12:30 p.m. at Sun Devil Stadium, Channel 7.

* Story line: The teams have not played since 1996--when Sun Devil quarterback Jake Plummer threw for a touchdown, ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass. They now meet with major implications. The loser is probably out of the Rose Bowl race.

* UCLA update: Cory Paus and DeShaun Foster are injured as other key members of the offense are healing. Danny Farmer’s bad ankle continues to improve, and the sore left knee and bruised left thigh that plagued Freddie Mitchell for weeks have improved. Starting right guard Mike Saffer probably will play after sitting out two games because of a sprained ankle.

* Arizona State update: The Bruins aren’t the only ones with physical problems in the backfield. The Sun Devils are listing quarterback Ryan Kealy (bruised ribs) and star running back J.R. Redmond (separated shoulder) as game-day decisions.

* Edge to UCLA: Arizona State was a 28 1/2-point favorite over New Mexico State and lost by 28, then a week later blew a 23-14 lead with 12:22 left at California and lost by one.

* Line: Arizona State by 1.
