Emotion Leaves Eagles

A question after Philadelphia’s 26-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday: After 11 consecutive quarters without a touchdown, when will the Eagle offense find the end zone again?

The answer will come faster once a patchwork offensive line stops getting pushed around and plays with more emotion, Coach Andy Reid said.

“Buffalo took advantage of our younger players, particularly on the offensive line,” he said. “When a group of players does not play with emotion, those players have to evaluate themselves. I’m not going to say it’s more of a lack of effort than it is a lack of emotion.” Isn’t the coach supposed to evaluate the players and get rid of the ones with no heart?

The Redskins are still giving up an NFL-high 417 yards a game, but they took solace in that the defensive line recorded six sacks and set up the decisive touchdown by forcing a fumble in a 27-20 win over the Jets.

“That’s the best line game we’ve played in quiet some time,” defensive coordinator Mike Nolan said. “They got off the ball well. They attacked the line of scrimmage well. I don’t want to praise them too much--I want to see them do it two weeks in a row.”

Having Deion Sanders available Sunday against the Cardinals will give the Cowboy defense a huge boost, especially considering a converted safety has been playing one corner and a third-year, undrafted free agent the other.
