LEADING MEN

PETER WARRICK

Wide receiver, Florida State

This guy can do it all. This season, he has scored touchdowns by receiving, rushing, kick returning--and even by passing Saturday. With the performances of Florida State’s two backup quarterbacks against Duke, Coach Bobby Bowden will probably move Warrick up to No. 2 behind Chris Weinke.

Saturday: 6 catches, 67 yards, 3 TDs

Season: 36 catches, 508 yards, 4 TDs

Next: Miami, Saturday

RON DAYNE

Running Back, Wisconsin

Dayne picked himself up from Ground Zero, getting 125 more yards and four more touchdowns in the second half against Ohio State on Saturday than he did last week against Michigan. The countdown to break Ricky Williams’ NCAA career rushing record is 944 yards.

Saturday: 32 carries, 161 yards, 4 TDs

Season: 133 carries, 773 yards, 10 TDs

Next: at Minnesota, Saturday

DREW BREES

Quarterback, Purdue

A fact of life in the Big Ten--let’s call it the birds and the Brees--was learned at the Big House in Ann Arbor, Mich. No Beetle-Juiced offense is going squirm its way out of the clutches of the Wolverine defense. In fact, Michigan defenders have performed so well the last two weeks, they should replace Dayne and Brees as Leading Men.
