Storr Waiting for Shot to Come

Jamie Storr waited and watched Saturday night, upset, but not at Coach Andy Murray for starting Stephane Fiset in goal.

“I’m a little upset with myself,” said Storr, who was watching because Fiset played better in training camp and exhibition games.

“I should have played better. But I’m happy with my training camp.”

Storr was 1-2-1 with a 2.38 goals-against average in four exhibition-game starts.

Murray has said he would go with the hot goalie and has given Fiset the first chance to be hot. He responded by shutting out Nashville, 2-0.

Storr is rooting for Fiset, but is a realist.

“It’s a long season,” he said. “The way it was explained to me, I’m going to get a chance and I could be the one playing after that. I’m going to take it and run as long as I can”

Before playing Mattias Norstrom on Saturday night, Murray spoke with several King players, both for input and to explain the ice time for a player who had only one day of training camp.

Norstrom, who signed his contract Friday, played 22 shifts in 19 minutes 50 seconds against Nashville.

“That first 10 minutes or so, I was shaky, but then it came back to me,” said Norstrom. “It felt great.”

With Norstrom playing, defenseman Jaroslav Modry, who had teamed with Rob Blake as the top defensive pairing through training camp, was scratched.
