School Crowding

Re “L.A. School District Can’t Do It All by Itself,” Opinion, Sept. 26:

Why doesn’t the LAUSD use vouchers to contend with a growing student population? Unused capacity at the local private schools can absorb many thousands of students, while no private property will have to be confiscated for construction.

Newly built schools will not have to be mothballed when school attendance inevitably drops. Tuition at these schools is far less than the average per-pupil funding at the LAUSD but test scores are much higher. Let’s take advantage of existing capacity to supply a quality, publicly funded education to our children.
