Allen’s Ouster
* In her Sept. 24 column about former Assembly Speaker Doris Allen, Patt Morrison blames Allen’s recall and political demise on her betrayal of the Republican Party.
She betrayed the GOP, but the real reason for her problems, which Morrison conveniently overlooks, is that she betrayed her constituents, who sent her to the Assembly to represent their interests.
Allen was no victim of gender politics. She had to know that her treacherous deal with Willie Brown would not play well in her district. Sure, the GOP initiated the recall petition, but her enraged constituents rightfully threw her out of office.
