Police Station to Host Open House

Share

The public--children, especially--are invited to an open house at the LAPD West Valley police station from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The annual event, which drew a crowd of more than 1,500 last year, includes participation by the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Marine Corps. Kids can climb into a police car, hop onto a firetruck or sit behind the wheel a military Humvee.

A highlight of this year’s event will be the Los Angeles Police Historical Society’s mobile museum, which will display old badges, guns, uniforms and photos, Sgt. Cindy Brounsten said.

Other attractions at the free event include members of the SWAT team, a police dog, a horse unit, a police helicopter and classic cars, Brounsten said. Tours of the station and the jail facilities will be conducted all day.

Members of the LAPD recruiting unit will provide information on how to join the department. LAPD reserve officers and Explorer programs will also be on hand to discuss their units.

The West Valley station is situated at 19020 Vanowen St., at Wilbur Avenue.
