Three members of a Los Angeles family have pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges and have forfeited more than $6.6 million in assets.

Behrooz Heravi, 46; Bijan Heravi, 47; and Behzad Heravi, 43, were indicted in March on charges of attempting to bilk government health care programs Medi-Cal and Medicare.

The Heravis owned two shoe stores in the Los Angeles area. Federal prosecutors said the family was funneling money from fraudulent Medi-Cal and Medicare claims through those businesses and to an offshore investment account.

They were charged with cheating the federal government out of more than $9 million.

The Heravis submitted fraudulent claims through a partner, Paul Zander. Zander also pleaded guilty and paid $750,000 in restitution, officials said.

Fourteen bank accounts, an offshore investment account and two Beverly Hills homes were seized from the Heravis.
