Picked up in a trade with Nashville just before last season and proved an effective backup to Guy Hebert. Had a .923 save percentage. Stopped 45 shots in shutting out Colorado, 1-0, Dec. 22. Played in a band with other Nashville players before being traded.

One of the more underrated centers in the NHL. Moves to the second line after skating with Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne. Had career high in goals last season. In the playoffs, had three assists in Game 1 against Detroit. Finished seventh in the voting for best defensive forward.

Age: 24 Defenseman Shoots: Left

Opposing teams--especially Phoenix and Dallas--hate him. Duck players love him. Tough, physical defenseman who has improved each season. On-the-job training pretty much complete, so could be ready for a big season.

Age: 29 Right wing Shoots: Right

Talented, engaging, somewhat offbeat. Led the NHL in goals and among the leaders in cars owned last season. Won the first Maurice “The Rocket” Richard Trophy (most goals) last year.

Pascal Trepanier #27

Age: 26 Defenseman Shoots: Right

Versatile player who can be used up front. Good skater and skilled puckhandler. Scored the game-winning goal against St. Louis Feb. 6. Missed last six games with knee injury. Picked up from Colorado in the 1998 waiver draft. Uncle is Montreal Canadien Coach Mario Tremblay.

Age: 23 Defenseman Shoots: Left

A rapidly improving defenseman. Has received extensive on-the-job training, averaging 16 minutes last season. Had an assist against Detroit in Game 3 of the playoffs last year. An avid tennis player who admires Jim Courier and Tomas Muster because of their “power games.”

Oleg Tverdovsky #10

Age: 23 Defenseman Shoots: Left

Big off-season acquisition who makes the Ducks more skilled in the back. Could become one of the best in the NHL. Was the Ducks’ No. 1 pick--second overall--in 1994. Traded to Phoenix (then Winnipeg) in the Teemu Selanne deal. Duck fans seem ready to forgive him for comments made before 1997 playoffs.

Craig Hartsburg

Age: 40 Coach

Entering his second season as Duck coach. Spent three seasons as coach of the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago won 40 games in his rookie season. Hired by the Ducks in 1998 after the Blackhawks fired him. The Ducks had only their second winning record in franchise history in Hartsburg’s first season in Anaheim. Hartsburg was a defenseman for the Minnesota North Stars from 1979 to 1989.
