1 Man Killed, 1 Hurt as Dockside Crane Falls
SAN PEDRO —
One longshoreman was killed and another seriously injured Friday evening when an industrial crane toppled on a dockside barge in the Los Angeles Harbor.
Authorities did not release the identity of either victim. The crane’s operator, 58, suffered broken bones and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Long Beach.
The dead man, in his early 30s, was crushed by the crane hoist when the huge piece of equipment buckled as the operator attempted to lift a dry-dock rail.
