* Trinity Lutheran Church will celebrate its 90th anniversary during a special worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. A potluck luncheon will follow. All community members are encouraged to attend. The church’s first services in 1909 were in German. Now services are offered in English and Spanish. Trinity offers parochial school for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The church is at 902 S. * The University Synagogue will participate in the national observance of Children’s Sabbaths at 8 p.m. Friday. Rabbi Arnold Rachlis and guest speakers Judy Zevin and Clarence Ray will discuss some of the serious issues facing affluent and poor children in society. The observance is administered by the Children’s Defense Fund in Washington, D.C. Child-care will be available. Zevin is a clinical supervisor at Jewish Family Service of Orange County. * George Saint-Laurent, professor emeritus of Comparative Religions at Cal State Fullerton, will present “East to West: A Christian View of Buddhist Spirituality” from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Center for Spiritual Development. The event will offer a Christian perspective on the Buddhist practices of self-discipline, meditation, wisdom and compassion. Saint-Laurent will stress how understanding of these characteristics can help strengthen faith. Cost is $20 and registration is suggested. The Center for Spiritual Development is a nonprofit retreat owned and operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. The center is at 434 S. Batavia St., Orange. (714) 744-3175.
