Storr Monitoring Injury

Share

When Jamie Storr knelt to stop a bouncing puck at Tampa, Fla., he heard a “pop” and felt a twinge in his groin.

“I thought, ‘Oh, no, not again,’ ” said Storr on Saturday. “It wasn’t even a hard shot. It was like when you lean down to pick something up and you hear something in your back.”

In this case, it apparently was scar tissue breaking loose from a previous injury, and Storr will have what he calls an “important” practice on Monday.

“I could have stayed in [Thursday’s game at Tampa], but it wouldn’t have helped anybody and it might have hurt,” he said of giving way to Stephane Fiset, who shut out the Lightning over the final two periods to earn a 5-2 win.

Storr could return as early as next week’s back-to-back games at Edmonton and Calgary.

Marcel Cousineau was summoned from Long Beach and served as Fiset’s backup Saturday night in a 2-2 tie at Washington. To accommodate Cousineau on the roster, left wing Steve McKenna was put on injured reserve because of an eye injury.

Defenseman Rob Blake gave away an assist Saturday night when he pointed out to officials that power-play partner Fran Kaberle had deflected Blake’s shot that was rejected by Washington’s Olaf Kolzig. The rebound went to Jozef Stumpel, whose shot also was rejected, but Luc Robitaille took care of the rebound for the goal.
