In nonconference men’s cross-country:
UC Irvine 21, UC San Diego 36--Shahram DeZahd ran the 8,000-meter course at UC San Diego in 28:40.51 to finish second for UC Irvine. Josh Levin-Soler took first for UC San Diego in 28:07.57.
In the Arizona State women’s cross-country invitational:
Concordia takes fifth--Junior Tricia Mattson finished ninth in 18:57 on the 5,000-meter course for Concordia. Adams State won the event.
In nonconference women’s cross-country:
UC Irvine 15, UC San Diego 48--Allyson Kulak won the 5,000-meter race at UC San Diego in 19:18.52 for the Anteaters, followed by teammate Amanda Armstrong (19:49.25)
In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s soccer:
Vanguard 2, Hope International 1--Joseph Neri scored the winning goal for Vanguard (7-3, 3-1) in the 86th minute. Louis McDermott scored the only goal for host Hope International (2-9-1, 0-3).
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
Long Beach State 3, UC Irvine 0--The 49ers (13-2, 5-1), ranked No. 5 in the country, were led by sophomore middle blocker Cheryl Weaver with 12 kills in the 15-3, 15-4, 15-2 victory.
The Anteaters (8-9, 1-5) got three kills apiece from Cassie Werhas, Brooke Witt and Lauren Nichols.
