Los Angeles Fremont 27, Calvary Chapel 0--Fremont used a balanced running attack, led by running back Juan Montoya’s 122 yards in 14 carries, and quarterback Ricky Jimenez’s pinpoint first-half passing to shut out the Eagles in a nonleague game in front of 3,200 at Westminster High.

The Eagles (1-4) trailed 3-0 entering the second quarter when Mike Kobzeff fumbled on a punt return at his 30-yard line. The Pathfinders’ Devon Dobson picked up the loose ball and returned it 32 yards for a score, and the Eagles never recovered.

Fremont’s first play of the third quarter was a 64-yard run by Montoya, and after that the Pathfinders used a methodical running game to chew up time and didn’t allow the Eagles to get back into the game. Calvary Chapel’s deepest penetration of the game was to the Fremont 40-yard line.

The final score could have been worse. Fremont committed 17 penalties, one of which nullified an 82-yard touchdown return on the opening kickoff. Fremont’s coach had to be restrained by his players when officials called three consecutive penalties as the Pathfinders were trying to run out the clock.

Fremont (5-0), ranked ninth in the Times City Section poll, also got two field goals from Joe Ruiz.
