Fullerton Shuts Out Northridge
Art Ramirez had two goals and an assist to help Cal State Fullerton, ranked 20th in the nation, defeat Cal State Northridge, 3-0, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer game Sunday at Fullerton.
Ramirez scored in the 23rd minute, then assisted on Antonio Martinez’s goal in the 32nd minute to make it 2-0. Ramirez scored his second goal off a rebound of his own shot in the 42nd minute.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
UC Irvine 1, Sacramento State 0 (OT)--Jon Spencer scored in the 101st minute from eight yards off an assist from Jason Thompson for visiting Irvine (5-7-1).
In Big West Conference women’s soccer:
Cal State Fullerton 2, UC Santa Barbara 1--Tennli Ulicny’s goal in the 89th minute off an assist from Kassie Rypel broke a 1-1 tie for the visiting Titans (5-9, 1-3). Kris Quiroz scored the tying goal in the 86th minute for Fullerton.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 3, UC Irvine 0--San Luis Obispo (7-6, 5-1) outshot Irvine (5-6-2, 1-2-1), 31-5.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
William & Mary 3, UC Irvine 0--Larissa Carter had 11 kills for Irvine (8-10), which lost, 15-10, 15-12, 15-13.
In the NorCal Invitational men’s water polo tournament at Stanford:
UC Irvine 8, Pepperdine 7--Andy Coffman scored three goals for Irvine in the ninth-place game.
