Duc Ngoc Nguyen, 43, of Fountain Valley was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of cruelty to children and assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into Orange County Jail on $50,000 bail.
The district attorney’s office will review the case and determine charges, said Sgt. Jim Perry of the Fountain Valley Police Department.
Nguyen was upset that his 18-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son had gone out the previous night, according to police reports. He woke them Sunday morning, had them lie face down on the living room floor and struck them several times with a 26-by-1 1/2-inch tree branch, police said.
The blows to the legs, buttocks and head left distinct bruises and welts, Perry said. The teens did not require medical attention.
