ACC Suspends Officiating Crew

The Atlantic Coast Conference suspended for one game all six officials who refereed Saturday’s Clemson-North Carolina State game after reviews of video tape replays and interviews with officials and game administrators confirmed complaints by both schools. The crew erred once when marking off yardage on a holding penalty and once when the 25-second play clock expired without a violation being called.

Florida State wide receiver Peter Warrick and former Seminole Laveranues Cole pleaded innocent to charges of felony theft. Neither was required to appear in court in Tallahassee, Fla., and neither did. Warrick and Coles are accused of paying $21.40 for $412.38 worth of clothes with the help of a department store clerk. . . . Doctors have delayed knee-replacement surgery for Wisconsin Coach Barry Alvarez until after the Big 10 season. The delay came after a tissue infection was found last week. It has not been determined when Alvarez, 52, will return to coaching. . . . Texas Christian athletic officials accepted an invitation to Conference USA and will join the conference as an all-sports member for 2001. TCU joins Houston as the second Texas team in the league. Southern Methodist was not extended an invitation to join Conference USA.
