AIDS Funding
* I am encouraged to see that L.A. County officials are finally recognizing the changing demographics of people with AIDS (Sept. 30). For the past nine years, the Salvation Army’s Bethesda House has cared for nearly 1,000 individuals and their family members affected by AIDS; 92% of those served are the homeless, women of color, their children and others who have little or no access to any AIDS health care or housing.
One of my greatest concerns is that funding for AIDS services may decline due to higher rates of infection in groups with little political voice. AIDS funding must continue to be a priority for them, too.
