Nancy Reagan Suffers Broken Rib in Fall at Home

Former First Lady Nancy Reagan is recovering from a rib fracture after an accident at home, a Reagan family spokeswoman said Thursday.

“She’s in pain, but she’s slowly getting better,” Joanne Drake said.

The 78-year-old former first lady slipped and fell Friday, Drake said. X-rays taken over the weekend confirmed she had fractured a rib.

Reagan was not hospitalized, and is getting bed rest at the Bel-Air home she shares with former President Ronald Reagan.

The injury has made it harder for her to take care of her husband, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, Drake said.

“She doesn’t want to cut back on taking care of her husband, so she’s trying to cut back on other engagements.”
