COSTA MESA
They come every Thursday night at 6 p.m. armed for wordplay. Members of Scrabble Club 350 gather at Borders Books, Music and Cafe on Harbor Boulevard to pore over their little wooden tiles while a digital clock marks the time nearby.
The players, about 12 to 20 of them, come from a gamut of backgrounds. They are writers, teachers, financial analysts, nurses, retirees and homemakers. Some of them come because they’ve been ostracized in their own homes, playing what club members call “kitchen table Scrabble.”
New, brave players are always welcome.
