Average NHL Ticket Tops That of NFL

Share

The average NHL ticket now costs more than the average NFL ticket, and both the Kings and Mighty Ducks are above average in prices, according to the annual survey of Team Marketing Report in Chicago.

The average NHL ticket costs $45.70 this season, with the Kings at $49.22 and the Ducks at $46.18. The average NFL ticket costs $45.63, but relatively meager television revenue helps explain why hockey teams struggle to cope with spiraling salaries despite the high ticket prices.

If the Ducks sold out every game with no discounts, they would generate $33 million in ticket revenue, not counting luxury boxes. But national television contracts provide the NFL with $71 million per team and the NHL with $4 million per team.

A family of four would pay $282.86 to attend a King game and $270.71 for a Duck game, including tickets at the average price, parking, four hot dogs, four sodas, two beers, two programs and two caps, according to the survey. The NHL average is $254.48.
