Mick Vukota of the Utah Grizzlies was suspended for eight games and fined $250 Thursday by the International Hockey League for trying to injure the Ice Dogs’ Claude Boivin in a game last Saturday.
John Van Boxmeer, the Ice Dogs’ coach and general manager, was suspended for two games for his part in a melee at the players’ benches that saw players from both teams swinging their sticks before play resumed.
Utah’s Joe Frederick also was fined an undisclosed sum. Frederick was not dressed for the game but became “verbally involved in the altercations that were taking place.”
Seven players who had been ejected yet returned to the bench area also were fined.
