Plans for Parks Along River

Share

Re “Parks Needed Along River,” Oct. 3.

The river project with its parks along the river is an exciting idea with the potential to benefit thousands while possibly having a negative impact on a handful of skeptics, as your editorial referred to them.

The skepticism of these neighbors, living literally a stone’s throw from the river, has been long nurtured. It began a quarter-century ago when we were told that airport authorities would not seek to expand, and that new “whisper jets” would be virtually noiseless; developers promised that the traffic patterns had been studied by the city and that there would be no traffic problems in Studio City associated with their developments. Restaurateurs promised that music permits would not result in noise at night.

Unfortunately, none of this is true.

If the river project goes forward, I want it to work. It will be an improvement over the current condition of the river and may add value to our homes. It can be a fun place. However, those of us living next to it have real concerns that must be addressed.

If there are problems--loud music at night, drinking, etc.--we cannot pick up and go home. We are home.
