Owens Won’t Play Today
San Francisco 49er wide receiver Terrell Owens will sit out today’s game against the Carolina Panthers because of a high ankle sprain that forced him to spend part of the last week in a cast. Owens was ruled out after tests were performed Saturday on the ankle.

Hurricane Irene probably won’t force the Jacksonville Jaguars to postpone today’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
But team vice president Michael Huyghue said the NFL was monitoring the weather in north Florida, and had contingency plans to move the game to Monday night if extreme conditions existed.
