It was a bad night all round for the Montreal Canadiens: they lost the game and their goaltender.

Mariusz Czerkawski had a goal and two assists and Gino Odjick scored his first goal of the season with less than five minutes left in the third Monday to give the visiting New York Islanders a 4-2 victory.

Odjick broke a 2-2 tie when he tipped Kenny Jonsson’s slap shot from the left point past Canadien goalie Jose Theodore 15:08 into the third period.

Theodore entered the game 7:31 into the second period when Montreal starter Jeff Hackett was injured in a collision with New York forward Steve Webb along the boards while chasing a loose puck.

Hackett, who had stopped all eight shots he faced to that point, is listed as day-to-day with a bruised shoulder and back spasms.
