DANA POINT

Share

When Dana Point transformed during the ‘70s from favorite surf spot to a harbor, it altered the lifestyle not only for the surfers but also for the ecosystem.

The 20-year-old controversy lingers today.

Although the harbor protects the boats, many wonder if the construction of the Dana Point Harbor was worth the change for wildlife.

Floating Lab specialist Dennis Minder tackles this issue from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Orange County Marine Institute, 24200 Dana Point Harbor Drive. His lecture is called “Dana Point Harbor: Good Idea or Ecological Nightmare?”

A “Killer Dana” cruise follows his lecture from 1:30 to 3 p.m. (Killer is used as slang referring to the good waves.) After the cruise, participants vote to see whether they believe the harbor’s construction was worth it.
