The City Council unanimously voted in favor of renewing a 12-year authority of eminent domain for land between the Santa Ana Freeway and Edinger Avenue, and the Costa Mesa Freeway and Red Hill Avenue.

Although some residents expressed their concerns about losing their homes under city control, council members said they had no intention of selling the land, and eminent domain would be used only as a last resort.

“Even though we are passing this, it’s no different than the last 12 years,” Councilman Jim Potts said.
