Grade-school students at the Sierra Vista School will be introduced to orchestral music this year through a number of visits by Cindy Ellis, a flutist with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra.
Ellis will lead a school assembly in January and spend time with each class in February.
In April, Ellis will be joined at Sierra Vista by four other woodwind musicians for a “Family Night” concert for students and parents.
The program will conclude in June with an assembly to demonstrate what the students have learned.
Ellis’ work with the school is made possible by the Santa Ana-based orchestra’s Class Act program. Thirty schools in the county participate in the program, which is in its sixth year.
