Storr Is Plenty Ready to Take His Turn in Net

While the rest of the Kings met Monday morning to talk about stopping the Washington Capitals’ shots, the man most responsible prepared for the task with the help of former NHL goalie Don Edwards.

Jamie Storr wore out Edwards, the Kings’ goalie consultant, before the rest of the team even got on the ice in North Hills. “I’m very confident in the kid,” Edwards said. “The difficulty [for Storr] is . . . just getting back to a competitive situation.”

Storr does that tonight for the first time since he started a game in goal Oct. 16 at Tampa, Fla., and played one period before suffering a groin strain.

That night 11 Lightning shots yielded two goals before Stephane Fiset entered the game and shut out Tampa Bay the rest of the way on 17 shots.

Since then, Fiset has a 5-3-2 record and 2.45 goals-against average. “I’m very happy that Steph has had a great record,” Storr said. “I’ve just kept working in practice.

“I read a story about Larry Bird, and he said, ‘If you just give 100%, everything will be all right.’ Well, I’ve given 100% in practice.”

Tonight, he learns if it’s all right.

“He will be,” Fiset said. “Jamie’s a good goalie.”
