Artistic Siblings Have Designs on Your Home
Customized original art at affordable prices? A new shop in Reseda may set a trend with an eclectic selection of home and garden accessories, plus a boutique of women’s apparel and jewelry.
Designer Showcase offers an unusual shopping experience with original art from a brother and sister team. Abraham Habas is a metalworker who forges iron into home accessories and furniture. He works on the premises, making candlesticks, tables and just about anything in between and will customize.
Not all wrought iron pieces on the floor are his design, but it’s easy to tell which are the originals. One pair of his candlesticks with a pewter-type glaze runs $10 to $19, depending on the size.
Sister Sara Shai, besides being a fashion designer, is an accomplished artist and sculptor, and her works are displayed throughout the store. A 36-by-24-inch wall hanging for $150 is an original sketch in mixed media on canvas attached to wrought iron poles. She will make a canvas from a picture or photo for $195.
Some handsome reproductions of Italian lamps are well-priced at $195, and two antique sofas that provide seating for the boutique are bargains at $495 and $800. A fountain with a guardian nymph is very reasonable at $55.
In the rear of one room is a collection of women’s apparel, casual and dressy pieces from Shai’s shop in Toluca Lake, called Sara’s, which will close at the end of the year. Her European background is reflected in the selection from local and European designers at 50% below retail. Leather-like zippered jackets for $29.95 retail for $69.95.
Don’t overlook the jewelry counter, where we found an exceptionally attractive selection starting as low as $8 and going up to $50; a silver and gold choker with a magnet clasp is a winner at $19.

Weekend Supersale: Starting Saturday, there’s a “$99 or Less” sale on leather apparel at Saks SFO. Men’s and women’s leather jackets at $29, women’s fingertip suedes at $49.
