Naomi Beck; Retired High School Teacher

Naomi Beck, a retired school teacher, died on Thursday. She was 93.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1906, in Los Angeles, where she grew up and attended school. She went on to the University of Redlands. Later, she received a degree in teaching from UC Berkeley.

For 38 years, she taught Spanish at Hoover High School and then at Glendale High School. She also traveled extensively in Alaska, Mexico and Europe.

In 1987, she moved to Ojai to be near her sister. She lived there until 1995, when she moved to Thousand Oaks.

Beck was a member of the Ojai Valley Community Church.

Her nephew, David Price of Thousand Oaks, said she loved old English sheep dogs. One of her special friends was Tootsie, her nephew’s dog.

Beck is also survived by a grandniece, Barbara Ihle of Omaha.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Chapel in Westlake Village, with the Rev. Don Moore officiating. Burial will be private on Tuesday in Fresno.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Mortuary in Westlake Village.
