1. FLORIDA STATE (9-0) beat Virginia, 35-10. Quarterback Chris Weinke makes up for three first-half interceptions with three second-half touchdowns in another come-from-behind win. Next: Maryland, Nov. 13.

2. PENN STATE (9-0) beat Illinois, 27-7. Kevin Thompson throws three interceptions before getting replaced by Rashard Casey, who leads Nittany Lions to 11th straight win. Next: Minnesota, Saturday.

3. VIRGINIA TECH (7-0) beat Pittsburgh, 30-17. Hokies look somewhat mortal, but game not as close as it appears with Pitt held to minus-29 yards rushing. Next: at West Virginia, Saturday.

4. TENNESSEE (6-1) beat South Carolina, 30-7. Volunteers barely break a sweat, but lose top running back Jamal Lewis and top receiver Cedrick Wilson to injuries. Their status for Irish is unknown. Next: Notre Dame, Saturday.

5. FLORIDA (7-1) beat Georgia, 30-14. Steve Spurrier wins his 100th game at Florida. Not that he’ll make mention of it. Gators closing in on SEC title game. Next: Vanderbilt, Saturday.

6. KANSAS STATE (8-0) beat Baylor, 48-7. David Allen twice comes close to NCAA-record seventh punt return for a touchdown, but an apparent 65-yarder for a score is nullified by penalty. Next: Colorado, Saturday.

7. GEORGIA TECH (6-1) beat North Carolina State, 48-21. Joe Hamilton throws three touchdowns for Yellow Jackets, giving him a school-record 53 for his career. Next: at Virginia, Saturday.

8. MISSISSIPPI STATE (7-0) did not play. Bulldogs may be unbeaten, but they still have major tests against Alabama (on the road) and Mississippi. Next: Kentucky, Thursday.

9. NEBRASKA (7-1) beat Kansas, 24-17. Cornhuskers couldn’t seem to shake disappointment of loss to Texas last week, but do enough to beat Jayhawks in the end. Next: Texas A&M;, Saturday.

10. GEORGIA (6-2) lost to Florida, 30-14. Quincy Carter has a day to forget for Bulldogs. He completes only six of 23 attempts for 76 yards against Gators. Next: Auburn, Nov. 13.

11. WISCONSIN (7-2) beat Northwestern, 35-19. UCLA fans take comfort. Two-thirds of the fans at Ryan Field (Northwestern’s home turf) were wearing Badger red. Next: at Purdue, Saturday.

12. TEXAS (7-2) beat Iowa State, 44-41. Don’t look for Chris Simms at quarterback any time soon, not when Major Applewhite continues to excel. The Major throws for 345 yards against Cyclones. Next: at Oklahoma State, Saturday.

13. MARSHALL (8-0) beat Northern Illinois, 41-9. Thundering Herd could hit 100 next week. Northern Illinois beat Kent, 50-7, last week. Next: at Kent, Saturday.

14. ALABAMA (6-2) beat Southern Mississippi, 35-14. Crimson Tide easily makes it eight straight wins over Eagles, despite being without injured Shaun Alexander and Andrew Zow. Next: Louisiana State, Saturday.

15. MICHIGAN (6-2) beat Indiana, 34-31. Anthony Thomas has a career-high 197 yards on 42 carries for Wolverines, who barely end two-game losing streak. Next: Northwestern, Saturday.

16. BRIGHAM YOUNG (7-1) beat Air Force, 27-20. Kevin Feterik goes 14 of 15 in the first half and finishes 24 of 31 for 336 yards and two touchdowns. Cougars stay unbeaten in Mountain West. Next: at San Diego State, Saturday.

17. EAST CAROLINA (7-1) beat Houston, 19-3. Pirates struggle for most of game, getting outgained, 363 yards to 223, but force five turnovers. Next: at Alabama Birmingham, Saturday.

18. PURDUE (6-3) beat Minnesota, 33-28. Drew Brees throws for 283 yards, or 239 less than he did a season ago against the Gophers. That game was a 56-21 Purdue victory. Next: Wisconsin, Saturday.

19. MICHIGAN STATE (6-2) did not play. Spartans certainly needed the week off after getting outscored, 92-38, in consecutive losses to Purdue and Wisconsin. Next: Ohio State, Saturday.

20. SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI (5-2) lost to Alabama, 35-14. Coach Jeff Bower says of quarterback Jeff Kelly: “He needs to learn to make some better decisions.” Next: at Memphis, Saturday.

21.OHIO STATE (6-3) beat Iowa, 41-11. Buckeyes already thinking of Spartans during walkover against Hawkeyes. Michigan State beat No. 1 Ohio State, 28-24, last season. Next: at Michigan State, Saturday.

22. TEXAS A&M; (6-2) beat Oklahoma State, 21-3. Aggie quarterback Randy McCown plays with separated left shoulder. Luckily for him, he’s right-handed and he completes 20 of 29 against Cowboys. Next: at Nebraska.

23. MIAMI (4-3) beat West Virginia, 28-20. Hurricanes held scoreless in the first half at home for the first time in 15 years. Not that it really mattered. Next: at Pittsburgh, Saturday.

24. OKLAHOMA (4-3) lost to Colorado, 38-24. Sooners losing luster off their bounce-back season. They have lost three of four, only win last week’s 51-6 decision over Texas A&M.; Next: Missouri, Saturday.

25. MISSISSIPPI (6-2) beat Louisiana State, 42-23. All-purpose threat Deuce McAllister is ace for Rebels with 229 total yards and two touchdowns. Next: Arkansas, Saturday.
