Two masked robbers with rifles held up a bank in La Verne and abandoned their stolen getaway car three blocks away, police said.
The bank robbery occurred about 9:15 a.m. at the First Federal Bank branch in the 1400 block of Foothill Boulevard, a strip mall in the city’s business district, said Lt. Darryl Seube.
He said the robbery took only a few seconds.
“They ran in and ordered everybody down,” Seube said. “Then, they jumped the counter, hit each cash register, then jumped back over the counter and then split.”
Seube said the robbers abandoned their vehicle, which was stolen Aug. 16 in Alhambra, three blocks away in a residential neighborhood.
