Obituaries : * Margaret Gommer; Former State Employee

Margaret Gommer, a retired franchise tax examiner, died Wednesday at her home in Ventura. She was 77.

She was born Margaret Driscoll on April 9, 1922, in Creighton, Mo., where she attended school. Later, she moved to Pennsylvania, where she met Harry Gommer.

They married in October 1944 and continued to live in Pennsylvania. Because of his job in aerospace, they moved several times during the next 18 years.

In 1962, the family moved to Ventura to be near Vandenberg Air Force Base, where her husband worked until his death in 1972.

Gommer moved to Sacramento in 1973 and started working for the State Franchise Tax Board. She retired in 1986 and moved back to Ventura.

Her daughter, Janyce Daly of Ventura, said her mother loved to read books and play Trivial Pursuit. She also enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and their son, William Gommer.
