Share

Just when it seemed like summer was winding down, the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks announced Thursday that 19 outdoor public pools--including six in the San Fernando Valley--will remain open through Sept. 12.

The city’s free swimming program has proved so popular that the department decided to extend the swimming season beyond the traditional Labor Day closing, officials said.

Selected pools will be open from 3:30 to 7 p.m. beginning Monday through Friday and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 11 and 12, officials said.
