Labor Day Weekend motorists in California discovered slightly lower pump prices as the average for self-serve unleaded regular gasoline fell 3.6 cents to $1.46 a gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Department survey for the week ended Monday. Although California gasoline prices have fallen for four consecutive weeks, the average is still 32 cents a gallon higher than a year ago. The U.S. average rose nearly a penny a gallon to $1.24 a gallon, primarily because of higher crude oil prices.
