The Port of Los Angeles today plans to announce the opening of a foreign trade support and promotion office targeted at businesses in the San Fernando Valley. The Port of L.A.-San Fernando Trade Office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to field questions and concerns about importing and exporting. It also will offer seminars and other events to encourage local businesses to begin trading overseas, port spokeswoman Julia Nagano said.

Staffing the office will be Vance Baugham, vice president of the mayor’s Office of International Trade in Los Angeles.

Nagano said impetus for the office came from the port’s longtime relationship with two business support groups in the Valley and from the efforts of two Valley-based members of the city’s Harbor Commission, Ted Stein and Carol Rowen.
