VENTURA COUNTY ROUNDUP : Simi Valley : House OKs Gallegly Watershed Bill
The House of Representatives on Thursday granted Rep. Elton Gallegly’s request for $500,000 to continue development of the Calleguas Creek Watershed Management Plan.
To become law, the bill requires passage by the Senate, which is scheduled to consider the request by the Simi Valley Republican later this month.
The Management Plan is an ongoing study that measures the effect of urban and agricultural development on the Calleguas Creek Watershed that runs through Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Camarillo to the Pacific Ocean.
“It is important to keep the watershed healthy, because it has a direct impact on the quality of life of the people who live there,” Gallegly spokesman Tom Pfeifer said.
The money would be used, in part, to test water quality in the area. Last year Congress approved Gallegly’s request for $200,000 for the plan.
