Wide receiver Carl Pickens ended his walkout Thursday and signed a one-year, $3.5-million deal with the Cincinnati Bengals.

He could play Sunday in Cincinnati’s season opener against the Tennessee Titans.

Pickens, the Bengals’ career receiving leader, met for three hours with Bengal President Mike Brown. The deal was announced after the team finished practice and left the Spinney Field facility.

Pickens, 29, said he would sit out the season rather than return to the Bengals, who tagged him as their franchise player but were unable to get a trade offer that included a first-round draft pick.

“Time changes everything,” said Pickens, who faced the prospect of losing about $200,000 a week if he did not come to terms before Sunday.

Holdout wide receiver Rob Moore signed a one-year tender offer with the Arizona Cardinals.

The agreement allows Moore to perform while he and the team continue to negotiate on a longer, more lucrative contract. Moore began the holdout in frustration when the team designated him its franchise player and then offered him a deal averaging $4.5 million a year but with a relatively small, $2-million signing bonus.

First-round draft pick John Tait ended his holdout and had his first workout with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tait, 24, an offensive tackle from BYU, signed a five-year contract, but neither the Chiefs, Tait or his agent would comment on the contract details.

Coach Gunther Cunningham said the Chiefs would put Tait on a two-week exemption list, meaning he would not be able to play in games at Chicago this weekend or the home opener Sept. 19 against Denver.

Also Thursday, Kansas City cornerback James Hasty, who took Wednesday off to ponder retirement, went back to work with the Chiefs.

Hasty said in a statement that his “intentions were misconstrued,” and that he never intended for the matter to become public.
