Richardson Gets Waived After Five Clipper Seasons

Share

Veteran point guard Pooh Richardson, who spent most of last season on the injured list with the Clippers, was waived Thursday with one year remaining in his contract.

Richardson, a former UCLA standout, has played 10 seasons in the NBA, and although the Clippers waived him, he will still be paid $3,460,710, which will count against the team’s salary cap for the 1999-2000 season.

Richardson played five seasons with the Clippers after being acquired in a trade from Indiana in 1994. After arriving to training camp in good shape last season, Richardson struggled to get playing time under Coach Chris Ford and missed some time because of an ankle injury. He averaged 3.5 points and 2.7 assists in 11 games.

The Clippers, who now have Troy Hudson as the lone point guard on the roster, are still looking to pick up a veteran before training camp begins Oct. 5. Sherman Douglas, who played one season with the Clippers, is a free agent and is not expected to be brought back.
