With Scott Weiland in jail for violations of his drug conviction parole, the rest of Stone Temple Pilots will do an early celebration of the Oct. 26 release of their fourth album, “No. 4,” by performing songs from the rock musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” backing its writer and original star John Cameron Mitchell in a private party on Sept. 21 at the new Hollywood club Vynyl. . . .

Emmylou Harris and much of the cast of the new Gram Parsons tribute album she produced will tape a special edition of PBS’ “Sessions at West 54th” next Sunday in New York, with a Nov. 5 airing planned. Others performing will include Sheryl Crow, Wilco, Steve Earle, Chris Hillman (Parsons’ bandmate in both the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers), Gillian Welch, Victoria Williams and the series’ new host, John Hiatt. . . .

L.A. ska revivalists Goldfinger are marking time to the release of their next album, due in February, with an EP to be released Nov. 9. Titled “Darren’s Coconut Ass--Live From Omaha” (though it’s actually an in-studio recording), the set includes the Cure’s “Just Like Heaven,” the Who’s “The Kids Are Alright,” the Police’s “Man in a Suitcase” and Peter Tosh’s “Down Presser Man.” . . .

Former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna is finishing his first album, due early 2000, under the project name Tweaker, with vocals from David Sylvian, rapper Xzibit, the Melvins’ Buzz Osborne and musical contributors including former That Dog member Petra Haden and ex-MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer. . . .

Don Was, smooth-jazz saxophonist Dave Koz and Lionel Richie’s musical director Randy Stern will anchor a jam of recording artists and music execs at a benefit for the United Jewish Fund, Oct. 5 at the Roxy.*
