La Amistad Misses the Real Battles
* Re “Antagonists Unite Against Gay Rights Bills in Sacramento,” Aug. 17:
In view of the significant problems facing much of the Latino population in Southern California today (low educational levels, high dropout rates, crime, poverty, etc.), it seems such a waste of time and human resources for the leaders of La Amistad to mount such an aggressive campaign against gays.
Isn’t their time and energy better spent dealing with the true threats to Latino life and morals?
On the other hand, I can understand the obsession of the Republican right with this pursuit. Now that Proposition 187 is dead, they need to target some other minority, as is their style.
And what better way than to get one minority to go after another.
