Advocates for a light-rail system in Irvine will lobby the city’s business community to jump on their train.

City officials plan to hold a luncheon in early October to present the Guideway rail project to individual property owners along the proposed route from John Wayne Airport to the Irvine Business Complex.

Rail supporters hope to receive right-of-way donations to keep costs down for the transit system, which officials estimate will cost between $130 million and $146 million.

About 28 project officials, including City Council members, city planners and representatives of the Orange County Transportation Authority, have been invited to the forum. They expect a 30-member business delegation, from the Irvine Co. to hotel managers, to join them.
