* Dates: Sept. 15-Oct. 1, 2000.

* Tickets: The Sydney Organizing Committee received 317,000 ticket applications, 6,000 more than the previous record set by Atlanta four years ago. The average application for the 2000 Games was for eight to 10 tickets with the total worth estimated at $227.5 million. Australians have an option on 5 million of the 9.6 million tickets, with 750,000 available overseas and the rest going to sponsors, media and Olympic officials.

* Budget: A readjustment approved in July and blamed in part on the IOC scandals decreased the sponsorship target by $32.3 million and approved expenditure savings of $45.9 million. Total projected revenue fell to $1.65 billion with expenditure down to $1.63 billion, maintaining the promised $19.4 million surplus to the New South Wales state government.

* Accommodations: The Olympic family, including sponsors and international sports federations, will need at least 30,000 hotel rooms during the Games.

* Security: About $65 million has been allocated to security, which includes communications equipment, dogs, rapid deployment squads for emergencies, and elaborate fencing around the Olympic venues. The security force will include 4,500 police, 3,500 contract and defense workers and 3,000 volunteers.

* Technology: IBM is a $58-million technology partner. It had problems in Atlanta and will end its Olympic sponsorship after 2000.

* Transportation: An integrated system of road, rail and ferry services will have to cope with about 500,000 people arriving and leaving the Olympic Park zone during the Games. Traffic snarls and delays are considered a potential problem but the system has worked well in test events at peak times.

* Venues: Sandy Hollway, Sydney Organizing Committee chief executive, wants everything ready by June, three months before the Games, and most of his venues are ready to go. The main stadium has attracted huge crowds and earned international praise after rugby and soccer games and an NFL exhibition. Twelve world records were set in the first major event in the pool.

* Competitors: 10,200 athletes will compete in 28 sports over 16 days.
